2025 Wetland Field Tour

2025 Wetland Field Tour

June 25, 2025

The WLEB Advisory Group took a bus tour of the Seneca State Game Area - a plot of low performing, mucky, agricultural land that is being converted into a wetland to filter out nutrient pollution from the surrounding landscape, and the Schoonover Waterfowl Production Area to see pre- and post-wetland development in Lenawee County. Participants learned about transiting agricultural land to wetlands from Blaine Baker, Bakerlads Farms; Kali Rush, Ducks Unlimited; and Randy Knapik, Department of Natural Resources. The Seneca State Game Area is also home to one of the 10 advanced water quality monitoring stations measuring nutrients, turbidity, and flow rate in the drainage ditch. Participants learned about this monitoring effort from Ed Verhamme, LimnoTech, and Angela Blatt, Alliance for the Great Lakes.
