Eligibility and Application

Eligibility and Application

M-CCAF accepts approximately 30 fellows each year from U-M’s Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses. All undergraduate students from U-M are eligible to apply, as long as they are enrolled on their campus during the program’s duration.

While all undergraduates are eligible to apply, priority will be given to first and second year students, as well as students further along in their academic careers who are new to the climate space.

The application consists of 5 short-answer questions that aim to assess applicants’ fit for M-CCAF.

Application Review Criteria

A review panel from across U-M will be asked to consider the following review criteria when reviewing applications:

M-CCAF enthusiasm and alignment: How clearly does the applicant express excitement about being an M-CCAF Fellow? How well does the Fellowship align with their personal, professional, or academic goals?

Cohort contribution potential: How well does the applicant demonstrate the potential to proactively contribute to and collaborate with an interdisciplinary and intercampus cohort?

Receptiveness to & willingness to learn from new experiences: Does the applicant’s example of a new experience reflect their ability to take on new challenges? Were they able to take something meaningful away from that experience? Does it indicate the potential to engage deeply with M-CCAF opportunities?

Capacity for problem-solving through moments of conflict: Does the applicant demonstrate potential to navigate tense or challenging moments with empathy and emotional intelligence?

Consideration of & approach to complex team dynamics: Does the student demonstrate consideration for future teams or team members that might not share their perspectives? Does their approach to complex team dynamics feel compassionate, reasonable, and effective?
