Culture, Thought and Meaning

This course introduces the study of symbolic systems of non-Western cultures and the significance of symbolic processes for social life. What alternative does the ethnographic study of others offer to conventional, dogmatic thought about social life? How does it teach us to think about the difference at the sources of human, spirit, animal, fungal, and other forms of life? This course fulfills the Upper-Level Writing Requirement.
