The Michigan Battle of the Buildings is an awards and recognition program focused on reducing energy use across various building types. It promotes energy-efficient practices in industrial, commercial, religious, and office buildings while fostering friendly competition among building owners and operators. Cities participating in the Battle of the Buildings have a unique opportunity to lead in sustainability. By joining, they can demonstrate their commitment to innovation and sustainability, inspire others, and contribute to a greener, more efficient future.
This CLC project aims to guide cities in launching and managing a regional competition by analyzing data on energy usage, water consumption, and waste generation, and by providing effective reduction solutions. As part of this initiative, CLC Fellow Nishitha Nagaraj Jain developed a handbook to assist cities in designing strategies for participating in the competition, even if they do not have a dedicated sustainability manager.
