Sustainability Curriculum for Scio Township

Sustainability Curriculum for Scio Township

Counties, cities, and townships across Michigan are adopting sustainability goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and address climate change. Scio Township joined this effort by developing its Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action Plan (ESCAP) to guide local action. CLC Fellow Bonny Wysocki created a sustainability curriculum to serve as an engaging and accessible educational tool for Scio Township staff and elected officials. Bonny designed the curriculum to build climate literacy and a shared understanding of core sustainability concepts, the local impacts of climate change, and the Township’s specific strategies for creating a healthier, more resilient community. This training supports the implementation of the ESCAP and helps advance Scio Township’s sustainability goals. Although tailored for Scio, it can also serve as a guide for other municipalities interested in developing similar educational initiatives.
