We study the chemistry of naturally occurring organic matter in freshwaters, from soil waters to streams and lakes. Currently we work on carbon cycling in arctic, temperate, and tropical soils and freshwaters, focusing on the role of sunlight, bacteria and iron in the conversion of organic matter to carbon dioxide.
