Richard K. Norton is a professor in the Urban and Regional Planning Program, Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He holds a joint appointment in the Program in the Environment, College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. He earned his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning and his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a licensed attorney in the States of North Carolina and Michigan. Dr. Norton teaches and conducts research in the areas of sustainable development, environmental planning, planning law, and coastal area management. Most recently, he has been working with the Michigan Coastal Zone Management Program to find ways to encourage Michigan's Great Lakes coastal communities to adopt stronger community resiliency principles through their local master plans, zoning codes, and infrastructure policies.
