Dr. Krista Rule Wigginton received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech and her B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Idaho.  Following her Ph.D., she conducted postdoctoral research at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland. She was an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland at College Park from January 2011 to December 2012. She join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan in January 2013 and is currently the Borchardt and Glysson Water Treatment Faculty Scholar. Dr. Wigginton’s research focuses on the source and fate of synthetic organic chemical pollutants and waterborne pathogens. Her research team works toward developing techniques to detect emerging contaminants in environmental samples and elucidate how they are inactivated and degraded when exposed to radiation and oxidants in natural and engineered systems.
