Professor Alfano regularly teaches both engineering design and technical communication in the College of Engineering, through its Undergraduate Education division. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Michigan. His engineering experience has focused on biomedical technology, and he has been an entrepreneur in that area. He is also educated in economics and in law, with interests in areas of intersection between technology and law, such as intellectual property and environmental sustainability. He incorporates such content when teaching engineering design in his courses, and also provides related guest lectures for colleagues' courses.
