Bart Bartlett is an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. His interests are centered around the growing demand for energy world-wide and the need for developing clean, efficient, renewable fuels. Separating, storing, and transferring charge comprise the primary research problems. His research program addresses these problems in synthesizing materials that will have immediate impact on the Basic Research Needs set forth by the U.S. Department of Energy. First, his group generates complex chemical compositions of metal oxides that are capable oxidizing water under photocatalytic conditions and transporting electrons for hydrogen fuel production. In addition, the group develops synthesis methods to create compounds with a high charge storage capacity, high ion mobility, and improved stability at the electrolyte/cathode interface for Li-ion battery electrodes.
