Decarbonization and Climate Resilience Funding Access for Disadvantaged Communities

Report Cover

This Dow Sustainability Fellows team partnered with Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) to help disadvantaged communities (DACs) in the United States access federal climate resilience funding more efficiently. Recent federal legislation introduced substantial federal funding for climate change, with at least 40% earmarked for DACs under the Justice40 initiative. Despite these opportunities, information gaps and community capacity constraints pose challenges in channeling funds to intended recipients within tight deadlines. In recognition of these barriers, the Dow Fellows team created fact sheets, eligibility assessment templates, a centralized webpage, and an informational webinar, all designed to enhance awareness and participation in climate resilience funding for DACs. The anticipated impact is an increase in federal climate funding to DACs, contributing to the equitable distribution of funds as outlined by the Justice40 Initiative.
