Community Needs Assessment of Water Security and Access in Puebla, Mexico

Publication Cover

Periodic water scarcity and concerns with water quality have been reported in rural villages in Mexico — leading to conflict and competition for water use with agriculture groups. The Dow Fellows team partnered with Foundation Juconi and the FXB Center for Human & Health Rights to address water security and access in the region of Puebla. Together, they created a series of deliverables intended to enhance scalability by way of stakeholder mapping and building on provided recommendations. Some actions include farmer field schools, water quality testing, rainwater harvesting, and engagement of state authorities. These recommendations are transferable between other communities and organizations in developing countries facing similar challenges and provides an opportunity for bridging climate resilience with other challenges such as risk management.
