A Graham Scholars team collaborated with ZeroWaste.org to research and design metrics for evaluating the success of zero waste programs, contributing to the development of a user-friendly, replicable scorecard. ZeroWaste.org is a nonprofit organization focused on reducing waste across all categories—trash, compost, and recycling—and promoting a circular economy by working closely with municipalities and communities.

The project’s goal was to enhance ZeroWaste.org’s ability to measure and communicate progress toward a circular economy, with a focus on benchmarks for waste reduction, engagement, and policy effectiveness. The team developed metrics related to economic factors, business relationships, waste reduction policies, and community engagement. Through group discussions with ZeroWaste.org leadership, the team refined their approach and made targeted recommendations. The resulting deliverables offer valuable insights into the effectiveness of ZeroWaste.org’s initiatives and will help foster collaboration with community members and municipalities.
