Working in partnership with Olympia Skate Shop, this Graham Scholars team promoted skateboarding as a sustainable form of transportation that aligns with the carbon neutrality goals set by the City of Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan.
The team conducted a comprehensive literature review, engaged with the local skateboarding community, and created marketing materials—including an infographic and stickers—to help destigmatize skateboarding and recognize its sustainability.
The team recommended attending community events and distributing advocacy materials as a way for Olympia Skate Shop to influence future skateboarding ordinances, educate the public, and contribute to greater sustainability in Ann Arbor. The team also suggested that the University of Michigan repurpose old granite benches for skating infrastructure.
