Together with The Nature Conservancy, this Dow Fellows team explored how agricultural and food system organizations across the Great Lakes and Mississippi watershed have expanded their partnerships and engagement strategies. Historically, The Nature Conservancy has collaborated with stakeholders viewed as having the greatest impact on national watersheds, primarily large-scale row croppers. To broaden this approach, the Dow Fellows team identified over 100 agriculture and food system organizations throughout the Midwest that support a diverse range of farmers and communities. They compiled case studies showcasing effective engagement strategies and developed a comprehensive organizational index highlighting potential Midwest partners. This work provides valuable insights into fostering stronger, more inclusive collaborations and expanding partnerships that enhance the sustainability and resilience of regional food systems.
