(Dow Fellows Program 2021)

Good soil health is a growing consideration in the Saginaw Bay Watershed, where pollution from agricultural runoff poses a great risk to the long-term sustainability of Michigan’s water sources and those who depend on them. Leveraging increasing pressure from consumers, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is interested in partnering with agricultural processors to promote better soil health practices in the region. A 2021 Dow Sustainability Fellows team worked with TNC to assess regional processors’ willingness to collaborate in conjunction with their estimated influence. The Dow team was able to provide TNC with 11 recommendations for companies that seem likely to be open to developing a sustainability partnership, along with a well-documented, tested process to continue this research.
