- Bringing a systems and synthesis perspective to understand ecosystem function in the context of landscapes and regions, including the effects of human activities on ecosystems, including watersheds and coastal ecosystems

- Applying data science and AI in other fields of science   
- Dr. Currie teaches an undergraduate course titled Sustainability Issues in the Great Lakes region.  The course uses a case-based approach, drawing on a variety of disciplines as needed to explore several real-world, complex and nuanced issues related to environmental sustainability in the region.
