Sung Kyun Park's research focuses on health effects of environmental exposures, such as air pollution, heavy metals, and noise, in aging populations. He is investigating the associations of exposures to air pollution, lead, cadmium and noise with subclinical cardiovascular outcomes (heart rate variability, homocysteine), lung function, and age-related diseases (diabetes, hearing loss, osteoporosis, cataract) in the Normative Aging Study, a longitudinal study of aging. He has a specific interest in gene-environment and nutrient-environment interactions. Dr. Park is leading studies on air pollution and electrocardiographic outcomes in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). He is also interested in environmental epidemiologic studies using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
