Sergei Chernyak studies organic contaminants in water, air and biota and their impact on human health. He has played a significant role in researching the PDBE and PCB problems in the Great Lakes region. He has also worked extensively in Artic and Polar ecosystems, studying effects of pesticides and other contaminants in pristine environments. Finally, he has also led research to investigate contaminated coral ecosystems in the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
