Dr. Lidia P. Kostyniuk is a research scientist in the Behavioral Sciences Group of UMTRI. She holds an M.S. in aerospace engineering and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan. Her professional career spans more than 25 years and includes teaching, research, and consulting in the area of transportation safety and travel behavior. Since joining UMTRI in 1994, much of Dr. Kostyniuk's research has focused on driver behavior, older drivers, use of restraint systems, risky driving behaviors, motorcycles, and crash involvement. Dr. Kostyniuk is a member of American Society of Civil Engineers, Institute of Transportation Engineers, Gerontological Society of America, and Sigma Xi. She serves on the editorial advisory boards of the journals Transportation, Accident Analysis and Prevention, and the Journal of Safety Research.
