Ken Sylvester is a historian of modern North America specializing in environmental history, social and economic history, and the history of Canadian and American West. His appointment as research associate professor in U of M’s Institute for Social Research keeps him active in several externally funded awards. His interests in human-environment relationships and sustainability have led to wider interests in synthetic research methods, which bridge historical and archival research, textual analysis, social and natural science, geographic information systems, and statistics.
